VJFNL Very Simple Multilingual is a lightweight WordPress plugin for managing websites in multiple languages. It offers the essential multilingual tools without adding an overly complex workflow.
The plugin does not translate your content automatically. Instead, you remain in control of every translation. Therefore, each language version can be written, edited and designed to suit its intended audience.
Translate WordPress content
You can assign languages to pages, posts and supported custom post types. From existing content, you can create a linked translation in another language.
Each translation remains an independent WordPress item. As a result, you can give it a unique title, text, layout and featured image. You can edit the content with the normal WordPress editor. In addition, you can use a compatible page builder.
Translations remain connected as a group. Consequently, visitors can easily switch between the available language versions.
Translate categories and tags
Categories, tags and supported custom taxonomies can also be translated. This keeps posts organised correctly in every language.
For example, an English category can be linked to its Dutch and Portuguese translations. The plugin can then use the appropriate category for each translated post.
Furthermore, translated category archives receive their own language-aware addresses. This allows visitors to browse related content in their selected language.
Create language-specific menus
VJFNL Very Simple Multilingual supports separate WordPress menus for different languages. You can create a translated menu based on an existing menu.
Where possible, the plugin replaces menu items with their available translations. It can handle links to translated pages, posts and taxonomy archives. However, unmatched items remain available for manual review.
Once configured, the correct menu is displayed for the current language. Therefore, visitors receive a consistent navigation experience throughout the website.
Use clear language URLs
The plugin can add clean language prefixes to WordPress addresses. Examples include /en/, /nl/ and /pt/.
Regional language variants are also supported. For instance, you can configure /en-gb/, /pt-br/ or /nl-be/. However, regional variants are only necessary when their wording or content genuinely differs.
Alternatively, language prefixes can be disabled. The plugin will then preserve the standard WordPress URL structure.
Manage translations clearly
Language filters and compact translation columns are available in the WordPress administration area. These controls show which translations already exist without cluttering the normal content lists.
Translated items remain ordinary WordPress content. Consequently, familiar actions such as editing, publishing, moving to trash and restoring still work normally.
Stay in control of your website
The plugin uses WordPress’s native content structure. Moreover, it does not send your content to an external translation service.
VJFNL Very Simple Multilingual is designed for website owners who prefer a focused, manual translation workflow. It keeps multilingual management practical: create your content, connect its translations and let visitors choose their preferred language.
